Why do people have to be so immature and stupid?

I honestly don't know why this news story is bothering me so much, I mean, its just a tree. But it is the sheer pointlessness of the whole thing. Why would someone decide that it would be cool to cut down a seventy-five foot tree that had served as a landmark for decades?
There is only one reason. People suck.

I assume by now you've seen the facebook groups devoted to the tree and have read some of the articles, but you're not alone in being bothered by this story. I think it's the pure senselessness of it that rattles us a little.
